There's a book inside everyone. So what's your story?

Lorraine de Kleuver

Lorraine de Kleuver

Lorraine de Kleuver has written and illustrated eight children’s picture books. Lorraine, retired nurse turned published author, is passionate about sharing the beauty of her local surroundings with her readers. Her stories remind us that human beings can accomplish great things in the face of adversity. Lorraine’s characters, for the most part, are Australian animals, lovable, friendly and kind. Her stories are full of humour, Australian culture, humour and adventure—just the thing to keep young readers engaged and eager to read more.

Lorraine grew up in country Gippsland but has spent her adult life in and around the cultural hub of Melbourne and has since moved back to the Gippsland. Having a particular love of J.R.R. Tolkien’s work and Colleen McCulloch’s Roman series Lorraine is no stranger to the written word. She firmly believes that positivity is the key to a good life.

Lorraine has embraced her inner child through writing fun and imaginative stories. With support from husband and her faithful pooch (a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Pip) by her side, she is sharing her love of writing with children and adults alike. Lorraine continues to develop her fabulous collection of tales that pay homage to the world at our door. COO-EE Call to Friends Far Away is the most recent instalment to the Pip and Felix Saga, and we are so excited.

In this next instalment of The Adventures of Felix and Pip, we follow on from ‘COO-EE’ Call from the Bush for part two of the story. Still amidst the raging fires. The KFA (Kanga firefighters) must enlist the help of their overseas firefighting friends. Cue in the Bison and Brown Bear Crews! They all must work together to overcome this raging foe. The devastation is visible far and wide. But, the combined efforts of these water-bombing, koala-saving, retardant-spraying heroes will see victory.
‘COO-EE’ Call to Friends Far Away, the second instalment of this three-part story, acknowledges multiple perspectives and experiences of the East Gippsland Fires. Crews on the ground and in the air work as a team to maximise their efforts.
“COO-EE” Call to Friends Far Away is Lorraine de Kleuver’s eighth book. It’s perfect timing with all that’s occurred in Australia and the world in the last couple of years.  ‘COO-EE’ Call to Friends Far Away celebrates local and distant heroes who come together as support in times of strife, showing teamwork, bravery, skill, and true humanity – all these we are ever so grateful.

We would like to premise this story by acknowledging the Traditional Custodians of the Australian bushland and pay our respects to their Elders past and present, of which this call is a part of their ancestral heritage.
